History of the Club

In February 1957, football as we know it in the Ku-ring-gai district started to take shape. It was Congregational Church Reverend Jeffries who recognised a lack of sporting activities for people in the West Pymble area and his subsequent letterbox drop caught the attention of Don Allen, a former footballer.

The letterbox drop invited boys interested in soccer and adults interested in assisting with play to attend the Congregational Church Hall in West Pymble. This was followed by a meeting at the Lofberg Oval, that led to the formation of the first West Pymble Soccer Club side, a squad of Under 12’s, which was entered into what was then called the Epping-Hornsby Soccer Association.

Further interest from what is now the Ku-ring-gai district grew and a decision that led to the birth of the KDSA – a public meeting at Turrumurra Masonic Hall for the purpose of forming a soccer competition to match the growing interest in the Ku-ring-gai district. The meeting resolved a body be formed to control play in the district. This body was to be called Ku-ring-gai & District Soccer Association.

From the Masonic Hall meeting, it was decided that the attending enthusiast would go forth and systematically gather interest from their respective suburbs. And so it came to be that in May of 1957, three Under 12s games took place and were the first under the KDSA banner. The teams that took part on that day in Bannockburn Oval were:

West Pymble, Wahroonga, Turramurra, Lindfield, North Turramurra and a Beecroft team.

The 1957 season was a successful one and by the season’s end, West Pymble had a second team, and East Gordon had also joined the competition. That made it eight Under 12s teams that formed the seminal KDSA competition.

Soccer in the district had made its mark. In the years that followed the initial germination of football in the district, the game began to grow. Season 1958 also saw the expansion that had ten Under 10s teams, ten Under 12s teams and six Under 14s teams competing in the KDSA. After a while, the growth led to a battle which still goes on today: the battle for grounds

Our club has a very proud history dating back to the formation of the Ku-ring-gai and District Soccer Association in 1957 (known since 2012 as the Northern Suburbs Football Association). We are one of six founding local district clubs that participated in an inaugural Under 12 competition at Bannockburn Oval, Turramurra.

We have a strong connection to our local community, and we recognize the many players, volunteers, and committee members that have been at the heart of our club since its establishment.

Our club celebrated 65 years of community football in 2022! If you are a past member of our Club, we would love to hear from you, whether it be sharing stories or photos or any other memorabilia, please get in touch with us via info@gordonfc.com.au
